Eco Museum Amphitheatre, Syntagma Square, Athens, Greece
Green Design Festival I
Eco Chic Fashion
10 September – 1 October 2008
A radically conceived exhibition, elegantly refuting the quaint notion that ecologically aware fashion inevitably compromises on style or quality.
Double Decker installed the exhibition in a series of precision-lit glass display chambers, one for each piece. The vitrines were divided by two-way mirrors, with lighting changes transforming the exhibit back and forth from a garment & its reflected double to the garment alongside a contextualising display; illuminating the fabric, process or concept at the core of the piece’s design.
The Green Design Festival was a standout feature of the ‘Eco Museum’, an open contemporary playground situated in Athens’ Syntagma Square. The Museum was an expression of environmental awareness in itself, providing an ideal context for Double Decker’s green curatorial ideas, from energy saving bulbs to second-hand props and decorative materials.
14 internationally well-known designers created garments and accessories using eco-friendly, recycled and recyclable materials, proving that eco-fashion can be chic, experimental and innovative.
