Green Design Festival II
Green Screenings: Cornerstone event at the Athens Green Design Festival

23 September  – 10 October 2010

Intriguing, entertaining and provocative programming highlighting just how crucial questions of ecology have become in the work of filmmakers worldwide. The carbon footprint of the free screenings was minimised by drawing their power from specially-installed solar panels.

Festival

A series of ecology-themed moving image events boasting seven international award winners and eighteen premieres. The selection was carefully curated so as to make a critical examination not just of ecological issues but of the way we think about ecology, and of ‘ecology’ as a socially and culturally-constructed set of practices and ideals.

We assembled a very diverse programme for Green Screenings, ranging from feature-length documentaries to animated shorts. Highlights included ‘Addicted to Plastic’ which tracks plastic’s path over the last 100 years; ‘Berlin Beasts’, a poetic narrative documentary about wild boars and foxes in Berlin and ‘Into Eternity’ a captivating, wondrous and frightening film about radioactive waste.
