Expect the Unexpected: The Contemporary Layers of Classic Kraków
Tying together PURO’s trend-setting formula with Kraków’s surprising layers of contemporary culture, Double Decker transmuted all the conceptual, industrial and architectural strata of the city into an idea-seed that germinated in a multitude of forms and artistic styles.
Drawing on the city’s internationally acclaimed history of film poster design, Double Decker sourced original vintage posters and commissioned East London screen-printing collective People of Print to give them a contemporary twist by respectfully superimposing unanticipated patterns. Prints from the exclusive series were installed in every hotel suite. For the lobby, Double Decker commissioned a series of high-impact photographs from award-winning Polish photographer Tomasz Weich, featuring iconic locations shot from unfamiliar perspectives.
For the public spaces of PURO Kraków, London based Royal College of Art graduate and designer Kit Miles was commissioned to customise classic Ligne Roset vases (designed by Noé Duchaufour Lawrance) by adding his precisely detailed ethereal drawings.
PURO Kraków, a collaboration with Blacksheep, opened in 2012.
