Design Museum: ONE-OFF

Design Museum, London

July 2013

Double Decker devised and hosted the Design Museum’s annual Summer Late Night event, running in parallel with the exhibition The Future is Here.

Event

An immersive, participatory event giving visitors the chance to engage in open and revelatory discussions about the future of design technology with designers and artists of the moment, combined with multi-media performance and demonstrations of new technologies and customisation techniques.

Sound and visual duo Sculpture performed a multi-media set, featuring live tape looping and acid-flashback visuals, amalgamating electronic music, kinetic art, comic strips, abstract animation and audiovisual cut-ups – a mix of analogue and digital practices. A workshop session on furniture up-cycling by illustrator Patrick Schmidt showed what’s achievable through customisation, while the Double Decker-devised The Future is Here Factory provided the crowds of visitors with demonstrations of the unlimited possibilities of 3D printing, Laser Cutting and CNC Cutting.

Participants

Screen-printing collective People of Print, sculptor John Rainey, jewellery designer Sylvia Weidenbach, fashion textile designer Ejing Zhang, illustrator Patrick Schmidt and Sound and Visual Duo, Sculpture.
