John Chamberlain

This week’s sculptor started constructing his distinctive car wracks in the 1950s. Chamberlain later worked with galvanized steel, paper bags, Plexiglas, foam rubber and aluminium foil – always transforming existing material into new objects. Accordingly, his work is considered to represent a major transition in the history of the modern, in which industrial material became an acceptable and even desirable medium. This movement continues until the present day and influences contemporary artists and designers.
