Being an international team ourselves, we fell in love with Brendan Tang’s fun and unexpected ceramics. With a tongue-in-cheek approach, he explores topics such as globalisation and assumptions between Eastern and Western cultures. The objects reference ceramic tradition in form of Chinese Ming dynasty vessels and robotic elements inspired by contemporary culture and Japanese comics. Being Asian-Canadian himself, the series is a personal reflection on identity and nationality that many expats can relate to: Nowhere else are we as reminded of our origin as abroad.
