In his signature collaged wood portraits, Stefaan De Croock represents a search and collision of creative identities and histories, in which the gaze of the viewer and subject are somehow reconciled. Deft at transforming textures, patinas, and forms from the world of the unwanted into that of something unexpected; it’s difficult not to name and project histories onto these large mysterious figures.
