David Umemoto
We came across the work of David Umemoto this week – these objects are quite something. Intricate angles, steps, pleats and ledges shape large blocks of concrete that, surprisingly have many functions with the series including urns, vases and lamps. With connotations of architectural structures the handmade cast concrete forms are inspired by geological strata and crystals and have an almost Escher like quality yet with the concrete modernist wonder of Oscar Niemeyer.
